چکیده

T he corpus callosum is the largest fiber tract in the human brain, and plays a critical role in many aspects of interhemispheric integration. Much has been learned about the structure and connectivity of this fiber tract through anatomical studies on a variety of species. The functional implications of these anatomical findings are supported by behavioral studies on monkeys and humans with lesions of the corpus callosum.

Title Brain resting-state functional MRI connectivity: Morphological foundation and plasticity

Despite the immense ongoing efforts to map brain functional connections and organizations with resting-state functional MRI (rsfMRI), the mechanisms governing the temporally coherent rsfMRI signals remain elusive. In particular, there is a lack of direct evidence regarding the morphological foundation and plasticity of these rsfMRI derived connections. In this study, we investigated the role of...

Abnormal moral reasoning in complete and partial callosotomy patients.

Recent neuroimaging studies suggest lateralized cerebral mechanisms in the right temporal parietal junction are involved in complex social and moral reasoning, such as ascribing beliefs to others. Based on this evidence, we tested 3 anterior-resected and 3 complete callosotomy patients along with 22 normal subjects on a reasoning task that required verbal moral judgments. All 6 patients based t...

Interhemispheric EEG coherence before and after partial callosotomy.

Measures of interhemispheric EEG coherence during REM and NREM sleep reflect the functional connectivity of the right and left hemispheres mediated by the corpus callosum. Surface recordings of interhemispheric coherence in two patients reflected fairly accurately the degree of anatomical section produced by partial callosotomy. With further development, EEG coherence may prove useful as a noni...

Is a cortical spike discharge "transferred" to the contralateral cortex via the corpus callosum?: An intraoperative observation of electrocorticogram and callosal compound action potentials.

PURPOSE By means of the intraoperative electrophysiologic observation, we reevaluated the "transfer" theory that a transcallosal volley invoked by a cortical spike discharge in one hemisphere directly causes its contralateral counterpart via the corpus callosum (CC). METHODS Twenty-six patients who underwent corpus callosotomy were the subjects of this study. Intraoperatively, electrocorticog...
